ABOUT US
The name 'Yuki Ohana' comes from a mix of cultures. The word 'Yuki' is Japanese for 'snow', and the word 'Ohana' is Hawaiian for 'extended family'. So the idea behind 'Yuki Ohana' was to create a place where people who love snow, can come and hang out with their friends and enjoy riding some of the best snow on Earth.
Set within a small forested area at the foot of Myoko san, it sits surrounded by a small enclave of similar Swiss style chalets. It's quiet and peaceful and far enough away from the noise and bustle of the restaurant and bar stretch of Akakura, but not too far!
HOW TO GET HERE
There are several ways to get to Myoko from the two major international airports in Tokyo. The first thing to consider is the number of people you are travelling with. If you are 3 or more people it may be cheaper to hire a car than take the Shinkansen and the other connecting trains, and you will have your own car while in Myoko. If you are flying into Hanaeda, car hire is easy as it's right outside the airport. Either getting here by car or train you may want to consider using the Black Cat Luggage Service available at the airport. If you can't fit all your luggage in the car, or don't want to drag a ski bag through multiple train stations.

If planning to travel by train we highly recommend downloading the hyperdia.com app, as it a great help!

Other options include The Nagano Snow Shuttle Service. This is probably the slowest option, but easiest as you won't get lost.
WHERE TO RIDE
There are many resorts in the Myoko area with epic terrain for everyone from first timers to backcountry chargers.
If you don't have your own vehicle we can drop you to any of the local resorts in the morning ( ie Ikenotaira, Suginohara, or Akakura ) and pick you up when you are done. If requested we can organise a day trip to any of the other resorts for an additional fee.
-
Ikenotaira - 2 mins drive - quiet and great for families
-
Suginohara - 5 mins drive - Great intro to riding off-piste, trees, terrain park and fresh corduroy
-
Akakura Kanko & Onsen - 7 mins drive - something for everyone plus the best sidecountry in Myoko
-
Seki Onsen - 20 mins drive - a little family owned resort and a must for the powder hunter
-
Madarao/Tangram - 25 mins drive - a go to powder resort with wide open tree runs
-
Lotte Arai - 30 mins drive - powder mecca for those who want the deepest and steepest
-
Nozawa Onsen - 45 mins drive - beautiful japanese onsen village with the best lifted terrain in Japan
Other things to do on a rest day include a visit to the Snow Monkey Park or a walk through the cedar forest to the Togakushi Shrine
WHERE TO EAT
We provide our guests with a hearty western style breakfast so you are ready for the day ahead. If you have specific dietary requirements we will do our best to meet your requests. For dinner we suggest exploring the main street in Akakura, as there are a variety of cool bars and affordable eating options to be found, and its great way to get to know the town. If needed we can do a drop off and pick up after dinner. In house dinners can be provided on request, but is not included in your daily room rate.
WHERE TO ONSEN
There are several paid onsens nearby, either directly across the road or a short walk around the corner. If you haven't had an onsen in Japan before, let us know and we will explain the correct protocols that should be followed. Onsen is a respected part of the culture in Japan and a highly recommend thing to try while you are here.
